Job summary

Borbet SA is seeking a CNC Head Setter for the Machine Shop to manage daily CNC and shift duties, ensuring alignment with customer drawings and metrology standards.

Ideal candidates have a Tool Maker/Turner Machinist trade and at least 1 year in CNC machining with FANUC/SIEMENS controls, plus strong leadership and problem-solving skills for a high‑volume shop. Weekend shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• Qualified by Trade: Tool Maker / Turner Machinist or relevant trade is essential.
• 1 year of CNC machining experience is essential (FANUC and SIEMENS controls).
• Ability to introduce wheels on Promot and Kuka lines from MD machine to exit conveyor within time limits.
• Experience with sample development would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Comply with quality standards per customer drawing specs, work instructions and SOPs in Machining Dept.
• Coordinate the Setters with their shift duties.
• Set up wheels to customer specification on machining cells within available process sheets and set-up standards.
• Achieve first-off dimensional accuracy per Metrology specs when wheel changes.
• Perform basic pallet maintenance and pre-set pallets for production.
• Monitor PCDMIS results and adjust; replace tooling/inserts per tool life cycle.
• Record equipment breakdowns with a Maintenance Job Card for the department Artisan.
• Tag wheels as Good, Rework or Scrap according to characteristics.
• Enter daily shift scrap and downtime in the Haldan OEE System per machining cell.
• Monitor and coordinate cell performances.

NOTICE TO ALL EMPLOYEES: INTERNAL VACANCY:

SHIFT CNC HEAD SETTER – MACHINE SHOP

The Company is looking for an energetic individual who can manage the daily duties of a CNC Head Setter in conjunction with normal Machine Shop shift requirements.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Comply, follow and adhere to all quality standards as per customer drawing specification, work instruction and standards operating procedures in the Machining Department.

• Coordinate the Setters with their shift duties

• Accountable for setting up wheels to customer specification on machining cells within the indicated period of time relevant to process sheets and machine set-up standards

• Accountable to obtain a full dimensional first off (drilling and turning) according to Metrology specification and tolerances when doing a wheel change over

• When required, accountable for basic pallet maintenance which includes replacing worn radial and lateral locators and also pre set-up pallets ready for production.

• Monitor PCDMIS results to identify problems and make adjustments. Replace tooling/inserts accordingly to its tool life cycle to prevent unnecessary tool breakage

• Record equipment breakdowns by completing a Maintenance Job Card and submitting this to an Artisan of the Department

• Accountable to identify with tags/labels all wheels in Machine shop department according to their characteristics i.e Good, Rework or Scrap wheels

• Enter on a daily account the shift scrap and downtime performance into the Haldan OEE System per machining cell

• Monitor and coordinate cell performances

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Qualified by Trade: Tool Maker / Turner Machinist or relevant trade is essential.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

• 1 Years of experience in CNC machining is essential. (FANUC and SIEMENS Controls)

• Must be able to Introduce new Wheels on Promot and Kuka Lines from MD machine to exit conveyor alone and in specified time limit.

• Must be experienced in Sample development

• Robotic knowledge would be advantageous (Fanuc, KUKA,Promot Gantry).

• Knowledge and understanding of SPC

• Able to read and understand Technical drawings

• Experience working with Measuring Instruments

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Strong Problem Solving and Technical Skills with Good decision-making skills

• Able to work unsupervised and with a team

• Physically able to meet requirements of position and must be able to work shifts and over weekends
