Job summary

ESG Recruitment Limited in Johannesburg is seeking a Qualified Turner with Red Seal for a single-shift operation in a metal manufacturing environment. You will interpret drawings with GD&T, set up tooling, load and align components up to 2 tons, and machine to CNC programs with 0.01 mm tolerance.

You will maintain production targets, perform daily machine maintenance checks, ensure safety protocols, and occasionally operate other CNC Lathe/Mill machines.

Qualifications

• Matric or NQF equivalent is required.
• Qualified Turner (Red Seal) is essential.
• 5+ years machining experience, milling focus.
• Strong GD&T knowledge for interpreting blueprints.
• Ability to accurately measure with vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings with GD&T specifications to understand machining requirements.
• Securely load, align, and clamp heavy castings and steel structures (up to 2 tons) onto the 360-degree rotating work table using overhead cranes, hoists, and precision fixture setups.
• Set up components and tool geometry for jobs which are either pre-machined, raw casting or welded up for machining to within 0.01 mm using approved Job Card routings and/or first principles.
• Make use of Fanuc and Siemens controls to operate the machine.
• Ensure that machining tasks are completed in line with operational procedures.
• Observe machine operations to protect tooling or machine malfunctions and adjust where necessary.
• Machining of components to the approved CNC Programs, completing first off and in process checks as per job routing requirements.
• Ensure daily production quantities are maintained and capture job times on production computers.
• Perform daily operator-level maintenance checks, including checking oil sights, coolant condition, monitoring central lubrication systems, and reporting mechanical variations.
• Maintain a clean work area and strictly follow all applicable safety protocols, especially regarding crane operation and large machine guards.
• Secondary duties
• Ensure the use of the correct PPE at all times.
• Ensure that all health and safety regulations are adhered to at all times.
• Operate other CNC Lathe and Milling machines occasionally.
• Ensure correct and safe use of all the tools and equipment, any defected tools to be reported immediately to the line manager.
• Assist in training, sharing your knowledge to assist others in the production environment.

• Ability to accurately measure and record using various measuring equipment including vernier callipers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc


• Strong communication and team work skills

Working Conditions

• Metal manufacturing workshop environment


• PPE to be worn at all times as required


• Ability to stand, bend, and reach around large machine beds for extended periods


• Ability to lift and manoeuvre heavy tooling independently


• Non-smoking environment


• Single shift. Mon Thurs: 07h00 16h15, Fri: 07h00 to 12h00


• Occasional overtime or weekend work by exception only December (Christmas) Shutdown
