We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced AWS Cloud Engineer to join our growing technology team. This role is ideal for a cloud professional who is passionate about designing, implementing, securing, and optimising enterprise-scale cloud environments.
As an AWS Cloud Engineer, you will play a key role in architecting and managing modern cloud solutions, supporting cloud migrations, driving automation through Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and ensuring environments remain secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective. You will also provide technical leadership, mentor team members, and contribute to cloud best practices across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage complex AWS cloud environments, including multi-account, multi-region, hybrid cloud, and multi-cloud architectures.
- Lead cloud transformation and migration initiatives from on-premises and other cloud platforms to AWS.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation.
- Ensure cloud environments align with AWS Well-Architected Framework principles, including Security, Reliability, Operational Excellence, Performance Efficiency, Cost Optimisation, and Sustainability.
- Design and implement high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
AWS Platform Management
- Deploy, configure, and manage AWS services including:
- IAM, Identity Center (SSO), and access governance
- AWS Organizations, Organizational Units (OUs), and Service Control Policies (SCPs)
- EC2, Auto Scaling Groups, and Load Balancers
- VPCs, Transit Gateways, VPC Peering, Endpoints, VPNs, and Direct Connect
- Security Groups and Network ACLs
- Route 53 and DNS services
- S3, lifecycle policies, access controls, and storage optimisation
- RDS and DynamoDB
- KMS and encryption key management across AWS accounts
- CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Config, and operational monitoring
- Control Tower and multi-account governance
- Lambda and serverless solutions
- Step Functions and workflow orchestration services
- EKS, ECR, container platforms, and Kubernetes workloads
DevOps & Automation
- Design and implement CI/CD pipelines using AWS native services and tooling such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, and CodePipeline.
- Automate infrastructure deployment, configuration management, and operational processes.
- Develop and maintain scripting solutions using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar languages.
- Promote version control best practices, branching strategies, and DevOps operating models across teams.
Security & Compliance
- Drive cloud security best practices, governance standards, and compliance initiatives.
- Implement identity, access management, encryption, monitoring, and auditing controls.
- Support compliance frameworks such as GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001, and similar security standards.
- Conduct security assessments and recommend remediation strategies.
Monitoring, Support & Troubleshooting
- Lead investigation and resolution of critical cloud incidents.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting across infrastructure, networking, security, and application layers.
- Diagnose connectivity issues across AWS, hybrid, and on-premises environments using tools such as VPC Flow Logs, CloudWatch, Route 53, and network tracing methodologies.
- Support DNS troubleshooting, including integration with enterprise DNS solutions such as CoreDNS and Infoblox.
- Establish monitoring, alerting, logging, and observability best practices.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers.
- Contribute to architecture reviews, technical standards, and cloud governance initiatives.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions, technical workshops, and cloud training programs.
- Work closely with engineering, operations, security, and business stakeholders to deliver successful cloud solutions.
- Contribute to Agile delivery practices, including Scrum and Kanban methodologies.
- Strong cloud architecture and solution design capabilities.
- Deep understanding of AWS services, cloud-native design patterns, and enterprise architecture principles.

Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years' experience in AWS cloud engineering, cloud infrastructure, or cloud architecture roles.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Specialty Certification, or equivalent advanced AWS certification preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- AWS Organizations and multi-account environments
- Terraform and/or CloudFormation
- Kubernetes and Amazon EKS
- Infrastructure automation and scripting
- Networking and security architecture
- Disaster recovery and business continuity planning
- Experience with software development practices and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Strong understanding of Git and version control methodologies.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, identity federation, and Single Sign-On (SSO) implementations.
- Experience managing cloud costs through Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, and optimisation strategies.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies.
Nice to Have
- Experience with hybrid cloud and multi-cloud environments.
- Experience working within consulting or managed services environments.
- Exposure to container security and service mesh technologies.
- Knowledge of FinOps principles and cloud cost governance.
- Experience implementing enterprise observability platforms.
- Additional cloud certifications in Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
