Job summary

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd in the Western Cape invites applications for the post of Chief Physicist Prof Nuclear (Generation) at Koeberg NPS. This permanent position focuses on managing nuclear fuel and radiation protection, reporting to the Radiation Protection & Chemistry Management team.

It is based at Koeberg Power Station, Western Cape. You will lead technical analyses, oversee complex fuel-related projects, provide high-level advice, and ensure safety and compliance in line with SACNASP

Qualifications

• BSc Honours Degree/Postgraduate Diploma in Physics/Mathematics/Applied Radiation Sciences and Technology/Engineering Sciences at NQF8 with 480 credits
• 7 years' experience in reactor physics or radiation protection physicist related experience at a nuclear power plant.
• SACNASP registration with South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP)

Introduction

Position: Chief Physicist Prof Nuclear (Generation) Koeberg NPS. Position/Task Grade: P17. Area of specialization: To manage and control all nuclear fuel and radiation protection related activities at the Koeberg Nuclear power station. Department: Radiation Protection & Chemistry Management. Business Unit: Koeberg Power Station. Location: Western Cape.

Key Responsibilities
1. Establish and implement fuel management strategy and provide nuclear assurance.
2. Provide high level technical advice.
3. Provide technical leadership on major analysis initiatives.
4. Perform independent oversight activities.
5. Validate and integrate analysis for nuclear applications.

3) Knowledge:

• Risk assessment principles
• Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant plant systems, operations, required associated fuel management and radiation protection control and practices
• Completed all aspects of prescribed physicist theoretical and practical training
• Route cause analysis training
• Competent in all aspects of fuel and radiation protection related engineering/ physics
• Manage the solution of highly technical reactor fuel related problems
• Manage the cross-functional teams on fuel related projects
• Independent oversight and identify gaps to excellence, convince leadership to address these gaps.
