Job summary

Boardroom Appointments is seeking a Chief Operations Officer for a Chapter 9 institution in South Africa. The role requires deep expertise in governance, human rights, and strategy, with significant leadership responsibilities across IT, HR, and communications.

The ideal candidate holds an MBA or LLM (NQF 9) with at least 5 years in senior management within human rights settings or 3 years in executive management, and demonstrates transformational leadership and strategic planning capabilities.

Qualifications

• MBA or LLM or equivalent (NQF 9) required.
• Minimum 5 years of senior management in a human rights environment or 3 years executive management in human rights bodies.
• Governance training is an advantage.
• Experience in human rights, social sciences, law, communications, IT and organisational development.
• Demonstrated transformational leadership with a clear vision and actionable approach.
• Experience in strategic and operational planning.
• In-depth knowledge of gender equality legal prescripts, including Constitutional law.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and guidance to Provinces, IT Report, HR and Communications.
• Manage company operations and daily activities.
• Develop and manage annual performance plans.
• Establish monitoring and evaluation of delivery against strategy.
• Oversee strategic project planning, design, and monitoring.
• Manage resources within budget and legal guidelines.
• Oversee policies and department-specific management within the company.
• Develop and lead teams under supervision.
• Coordinate stakeholder engagements.
• Ensure legal compliance of company and staff.
• Align strategic direction with national, regional and international instruments.
• Advise the CEO on strategic and operational matters.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
