About the Role

Our client is seeking an exceptional and strategic Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join their executive leadership team. This pivotal role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's operations, driving strategic execution, and ensuring operational excellence across the entire organization. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned leader with a proven history of success in managing complex operational functions, optimizing efficiency, and scaling businesses. This position is integral to achieving our client's ambitious growth targets and market leadership aspirations. This is a fully remote executive position, offering the flexibility to operate from anywhere in the world while contributing to the strategic direction and operational success of the company, with a strong administrative connection to Stellenbosch, Western Cape

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the company's operational strategy in alignment with the overall business vision and objectives.
• Oversee all daily operations, including but not limited to supply chain, customer service, IT, human resources, and product development.
• Lead and mentor executive leadership and departmental heads, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and high performance.
• Drive operational efficiency, cost optimization, and quality improvements across all business units.
• Manage the company's operational budget, ensuring financial discipline and effective resource allocation.
• Identify and mitigate operational risks, implementing robust governance and compliance frameworks.
• Collaborate closely with the CEO and other C-suite executives on strategic planning and execution.
• Champion the adoption of new technologies and operational best practices.
• Ensure the seamless scaling of operations to support business growth.
• Report on operational performance, strategic initiatives and key metrics to the Board of Directors and executive team.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field; a PhD is a plus.
• Minimum of 15 years of senior leadership experience, with a significant portion in a COO or equivalent role responsible for broad operational oversight.
• Demonstrated success in scaling businesses and driving significant improvements in operational efficiency and profitability.
• Expertise in strategic planning, financial management, and corporate governance.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
• Proven experience managing large, diverse, and distributed teams effectively in a remote setting.
• Deep understanding of various business functions and their interdependencies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
• Experience with mergers, acquisitions, and international expansion is highly desirable.
