Job summary

Transnet, located in Saldanha, seeks a Chief Marine Eng Officer to lead marine engineering for the harbour tug. You will oversee maintenance, fault diagnosis, and on-board repairs to ensure safe, efficient operation and adherence to schedules and standards.

The role requires licenced senior enginering qualifications, strong leadership, and the ability to manage resources and safety compliance in a demanding maritime environment.

Qualifications

• Valid certification: 2nd Engineer Officer (<3000 kW) CMEO Port Ops Endorsed, OR Valid Chief Engineer Officer (Port Operations).
• Added advantage: Chief Engineer Officer (Port Operations) or Unlimited licence.
• Project Management Certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain equipment in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules to ensure optimum tug availability.
• Manage on-board fault diagnosis and repairs.
• Operate plant and auxiliary equipment according to marine engineering standards and practices.
• Perform checks of plant and equipment, including surveillance while the tug is underway.
• Plan and oversee lay/overhaul of plant and equipment with the Marine Technical Manager.
• Allocate resources (tools, spares, etc.) and supervise crew; mentor trainees.
