Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an innovative Chemical Engineer focused on product formulation to join our Port Elizabeth-based R&D team. You will design, develop, and test new formulations to meet market needs and performance criteria.

You will collaborate with marketing, sales, and manufacturing to launch products and improve existing lines, applying knowledge of rheology, surface chemistry, and analytical techniques.

Qualifications

• A degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
• 3-6 years of product formulation experience in coatings, adhesives, polymers, or specialty chemicals.
• Strong knowledge of formulation principles, rheology, and surface chemistry.
• Experience with analytical techniques for product characterization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical product formulations for various applications, ensuring performance targets are met.
• Conduct laboratory experiments to evaluate raw materials, intermediates, and final product properties.
• Perform stability testing, compatibility studies, and other product performance evaluations.
• Collaborate with the supply chain team to source and qualify new raw materials.
• Assist in the scale-up of formulations from laboratory to pilot and production scales.
• Document all formulation development activities, results, and specifications in detail.
