Responsabilidades

About the Role

Our client, a significant manufacturer of specialized polymers, is seeking an experienced Chemical Engineer to join their production team in Vereeniging, Gauteng. This role focuses on optimizing the processes involved in polymer synthesis, compounding, and finishing to ensure high product quality, efficiency, and safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in polymer chemistry and process engineering, with a proven ability to troubleshoot complex production issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives. You will play a key part in maintaining and enhancing our client's competitive edge in the polymer market. This hybrid role offers a blend of essential on-site operational engagement and flexibility for remote analysis and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and optimize chemical processes for polymer production, including polymerization reactions, extrusion, and compounding.
• Monitor process parameters, analyze production data, and implement adjustments to maximize yield and product consistency.
• Troubleshoot process deviations, equipment malfunctions, and quality issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Collaborate with the R&D department on new product development and process scale-up activities.
• Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and quality management systems.
• Develop and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and P&IDs.
• Participate in process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement necessary safety measures.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies or equipment to improve process efficiency and product performance.
• Provide technical guidance to plant operators and maintenance personnel.
• Effectively manage responsibilities in a hybrid work model, balancing remote tasks with critical on-site operational support in Vereeniging.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical process engineering, with specific experience in polymer manufacturing.
• Solid understanding of polymerization mechanisms, polymer processing techniques (e.g., extrusion, injection molding), and material science.
• Experience with process control systems and data analysis tools.
• Knowledge of quality control standards and methodologies in polymer production.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
