Job summary

PAR EXCELLANCE is seeking a highly skilled Retail/Full Service Butcher with 5+ years of experience, holding a Grade 12 and fluency in Afrikaans and English. The role requires excellent knife skills, knowledge of meat cuts, trimming, portion control, and HACCP/food safety.

You will develop and implement SOPs, perform cutting, boning, portioning, monitor stock rotation, ensure hygiene, train staff, attend management meetings, and report to the CEO. Start ASAP; East Rand location; by 1 Sept. 2026.

Qualifications

• Requires 5+ years as a qualified/experienced butcher in retail/full-service environment.
• Must have excellent knife skills and knowledge of meat cuts, trimming and portion control.
• Familiarity with Q.C./Food Safety/Hygiene and HACCP/SHE principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop/implement/control systems and SOPs.
• Perform professional cutting, trimming, boning and portioning of meat; prepare/process a wide variety of fresh cuts and value-added products.
• Operate and maintain equipment safely; ensure high productivity and quality; monitor stock rotation and waste; assist with stock control and receiving.
• Train, delegate and discipline staff; conduct performance evaluations; prepare management reports; attend management meetings.

Job description

Afrikaans & English-speaking Gr.12; 5+ years exp as a qualified/experienced/passionate Retail/Full Service Butcher. Must have excellent knife skills/meat cutting techniques/knowledge of meat cuts/trimming/ portion control/Q.C./Food Safety/ Hygiene/ HACCP/SHE principles.

• Must take pride in his workmanship/have good communication/teamwork skills/be reliable/honest/able to work under pressure/willing to work public holidays/weekends when required.
• Must be able to develop/implement/control systems/SOP’s/ perform professional cutting/ trimming/ boning/portioning of meat/prepare/process a wide variety of fresh cuts/ value-added meats/ beef/lamb/pork/chicken/processed meat products.
• Must operate/maintain butchery equipment safely/efficiently/work effectively within a team/maintain productivity/quality standards.
• Must produce retail-ready/meat products/ensure excellent product presentation/display standards / maintain high standards of hygiene/food safety/excellent customer service/product advice/monitor stock rotation/minimise waste/assist with stock control/receiving/quality inspections.
• Must train/delegate/discipline staff/conduct performance evaluations/keep to budgets/do RCA of non-conformances/implement CA/PA/ write management reports/attend regular mngt meetings.
