Job summary

Pick n Pay is hiring in South Africa for a butchery attendant. You will prepare and cut meat to specifications, maintain hygiene, and support stock management. The role requires team collaboration, reliable communication, and the ability to work in a cold environment.

Training and growth opportunities are available within the butchery team. Responsibilities include operating equipment, deboning, prepping mince/sausages, and assisting with stock takes.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent is required.
• Excellent customer service and team collaboration skills.
• Proven ability to cut, debone and prepare meat according to standards.
• Ability to work in a cold environment and lift heavy loads.
• Good communication and reliability are essential.
• Will complete numeracy assessments as part of the process.

Responsibilities

• Operate all butchery equipment, including the Bandsaw.
• Prepare and debone meat carcasses according to specifications.
• Produce mince and sausages; manage stock according to procedures.
• Check temperatures and maintain cold chain integrity.
• Assist with receiving meat from suppliers and stocktakes.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of equipment and area.
• Report defective equipment to the Butchery Manager.
• Provide courteous, professional service to customers.

Job description

Minimum requirements

Grade 12 / Matric / Equivalent Must comply with the medical criteria required by the OHS Act for the Butchery. All applicants will be required to successfully complete the appropriate numeracy screening assessments.

• Able to cut / manufacture / produce various meat products e.g. loin chops, roast, etc., (This skill will be tested).

• Be physically able to lift carcasses and containers of meat.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate all Butchery equipment including the Bandsaw
• Report any defective equipment/utensils to the Butchery Manager
• Control, merchandise and promote stock according to laid down procedures and standards
• Prepare and break various meat carcasses according to laid down specifications
• Deboning all cuts of meat and manufacture mince/produce sausage
• Prevent wastage/shrinkage/damages
• Check temperatures and monitor/maintain the cold chain
• Provide the required product or services and handle customers in a courteous and professional manner
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness and hygiene of butchery related equipment and utensils
• Assist with the receiving of meat from suppliers
• Assist with training staff on various new products/lines
• Assist with Stocktakes
