Placements24 is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee a biotechnology research facility in Bloemfontein. Lead daily operations, ensure safety/compliance, manage budgets, and supervise technical staff to drive efficient and compliant scientific work.

The role requires strong leadership, budgeting expertise, and a deep understanding of lab management principles to advance research excellence in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
• Minimum of 5 years in a laboratory setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Proven experience in biotechnology research methodologies and laboratory best practices.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and compliance standards.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with budget management and resource planning.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily laboratory operations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow optimization for biotechnology research.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA, GLP).
• Manage laboratory inventory, ordering supplies, reagents, and equipment, and maintaining vendor relationships.
• Supervise, train, and mentor laboratory technicians and research assistants, fostering a productive team environment.
• Develop and manage the laboratory budget, tracking expenditures and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, arranging for external service and repairs as needed.
