Job summary

Qualifications

  • MSc in Epidemiology or Biostatistics (NQF Level 9).
  • PhD in Epidemiology or Biostatistics (NQF Level 10) – advantageous.
  • 3–5 years' post-Master's experience in Biostatistics.
  • Minimum 3 years' research and data analysis experience.
  • Proven publication record, with at least 5 publications.
  • Strong knowledge of biostatistics and epidemiology.
  • Proficiency in SAS, STATA or R.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of database management and data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide biostatistical support for the development of workplace health policies, systems and programmes.
  • Conduct advanced biostatistical analyses and provide statistical expertise across research projects.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of occupational health research programmes focused on occupational diseases and injuries.
  • Review and develop statistical analysis plans for research protocols, grant applications, publications and reports.
  • Support research teams with data management, interpretation and presentation of findings.
  • Develop and deliver training programmes for healthcare professionals and students, including CPD programmes.
  • Contribute to lectures and teaching in biostatistics, epidemiology and related courses.
  • Conduct research in public and occupational health and contribute to scientific publications.
  • Engage with local and international research partners on programmes of mutual interest.
  • Provide technical advice on epidemiological and biostatistical matters to relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare scientific reports and contribute to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Keep up to date with developments in biostatistics, epidemiology and public health.
  • Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams while managing assigned projects independently.
  • Perform any other reasonable and lawful duties as required.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Biostatistician to provide specialist biostatistical expertise, research, training and teaching within the occupational health and public health environment.

The successful candidate will support research programmes, government and private-sector initiatives, data analysis, statistical planning and scientific reporting, while contributing to the development of occupational health knowledge and capacity.

Key Responsibilities
