Placements24 is seeking an accomplished Biopharmaceutical Process Engineer for a fully remote role to support biologics development and manufacturing initiatives. This position focuses on the design, optimization, and scale-up of bioprocesses for therapeutic proteins and antibodies.

You will work with diverse global teams, applying upstream/downstream processing expertise to ensure robust manufacturing, process validation, and regulatory compliance from your home base in South Africa.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years in biopharmaceutical process development and manufacturing.
• Extensive knowledge of upstream (cell culture, fermentation) and downstream (purification) bioprocessing.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize bioprocesses for mammalian cell culture and microbial fermentation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve process issues during development, scale-up, and commercial manufacturing.
• Perform process validation activities and ensure regulatory compliance (FDA, EMA, SAHPRA).
• Develop and implement process monitoring and control strategies using PAT tools.
• Collaborate with external partners and contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs) on process transfer and execution.
• Contribute to the selection and qualification of new manufacturing equipment and technologies.
