We are seeking an experienced BIBA Team Lead to join our consulting team in Cape Town. This is a contract opportunity for a seasoned Business Intelligence professional who combines strong leadership, data governance expertise, business analysis capability, and deep Power BI knowledge.
The BIBA Team Lead will serve as the central point of coordination between business stakeholders, analytics teams, and technical delivery functions, ensuring the consistent implementation of reporting standards, governance frameworks, and business intelligence best practices.
The successful candidate will lead a team of Business Intelligence Business Analysts (BIBA), provide guidance to self-service BI practitioners, and work closely with Data Architects, Data Engineers, BI Developers, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable, and governed reporting solutions.
Define and maintain reporting standards, naming conventions, and BI best practices across the organisation.
Establish and govern certified datasets, semantic models, and reusable reporting assets.
Drive adherence to data governance policies and reporting quality standards.
Implement and maintain report review and publication processes.
Support governance of the Power BI environment, including security and access controls.
Facilitate workshops and requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders across multiple business areas.
Analyse, document, and prioritise reporting and analytics requirements.
Ensure alignment between business requirements and technical delivery teams.
Collaborate with Data Architects and Data Engineering teams to ensure reporting requirements are technically feasible and effectively implemented.
Lead, mentor, coach, and develop Business Intelligence Business Analysts.
Allocate workload and oversee delivery across the BIBA function.
Provide functional guidance to self-service BI developers and analysts within business units.
Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
Facilitate communities of practice to drive consistency and knowledge sharing.
Ensure reporting solutions meet governance, security, and quality requirements.
Oversee Power BI workspace governance and row-level security standards.
Monitor reporting platform usage, performance, licensing, and capacity considerations.
Promote data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across reporting solutions.
Develop and maintain reporting standards, operating procedures, and knowledge repositories.
Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the BI and analytics landscape.
Stay abreast of emerging Power BI, data governance, and analytics trends and best practices.
Contribute to the evolution of BI governance frameworks and delivery methodologies.
Minimum 7 years' experience in Business Intelligence, Business Analysis, Reporting, or Data Analytics environments.
Proven experience leading or coordinating BI teams, reporting functions, or governance initiatives.
Strong experience gathering, documenting, and prioritising business requirements.
Demonstrated experience implementing and enforcing reporting standards and data governance practices.
Experience working within complex, cross-functional environments involving multiple stakeholders.
Advanced Power BI knowledge, including:
Semantic modelling
Star schema design
Certified datasets
Row-level security
Power BI governance
Strong SQL proficiency (non-negotiable).
Solid understanding of data warehousing and reporting architectures.
Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices.
Familiarity with ETL and data integration processes.
Understanding of BI platform administration, security, and performance optimisation.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
