Job summary

Discovery Limited's Insure division seeks a Senior BI Data Analyst to translate data into actionable insights. You will develop BI solutions, optimise SQL, and design dashboards to support decision-making.

You'll work with Azure data services (Azure SQL, Data Factory, Synapse) and apply statistical techniques, forecasting, and machine learning where applicable. Collaboration with the team and mentoring juniors are part of the role.

Qualifications

• 3 years of experience in BI/data analytics roles.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Strong SQL Server, T-SQL and Azure data platform skills.
• Experience with Python or R and ML basics.
• Knowledge of data modelling, ETL/ELT, and data warehousing.
• Insurance industry experience is advantageous.

• Analyse large datasets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Design and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards.

Key Purpose

The Senior BI Data Analyst is responsible for analysing data, developing BI solutions, and delivering insights that support business decision-making. The role requires strong SQL and coding skills, experience with SQL Server and Azure data platforms, and the ability to transform complex data into actionable information. The role is also expected to apply statistical and data science techniques to uncover trends, predict outcomes, and drive data-driven decision-making.

Areas of responsibility may include but are not limited to:

• Develop and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Advanced SQL Server and T-SQL development.
• Experience with Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Fabric, and Databricks.
• Data modelling, ETL/ELT, and data warehousing exposure.
• Experience with Python, R, or similar analytical programming languages.
• Knowledge of statistical modelling, forecasting, machine learning, and data mining techniques.
• Strong coding, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation skill
• Insurance experience is advantageous

Education and Experience

Education:

• Matric (Essential)
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Relevant Microsoft Azure, SQL, Power BI, Data Science, or AI certifications are advantageous.
• 3 Years experience in any of the fields specified under essential qualification.
