Germiston, South Africa is seeking a Bending Operator to join the production team. The role involves setting up and operating bending machines to form cut parts per job cards and drawings, and ensuring parts meet specifications before proceeding.

Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years’ bending experience in fabrication, be able to read drawings and set up tooling, and adhere to safety practices. The position is based on-site in Germiston.

Formación

Responsabilidades

• Prepare the bending machine with the correct tooling for each job, according to the job card and drawing.
• Bend parts according to the job card, drawing and specification.
• Check bent parts against the drawing and adjust settings to maintain accuracy.
• Query discrepancies between the job card, drawing and material with the Workshop Manager before proceeding.
• Carry out start-up, shut-down and daily checks on oils, gauges, tooling and rails.
• Change and maintain tooling and ensure it is correctly identified.
• Inspect bent parts for accuracy and sign off completed job cards.
• Record jobs completed, quantities bent and material used, and prepare for next process or dispatch.
• Operate only machines you are trained, assessed as competent and authorised to use.
• Keep work area clean and attend safety training and toolbox talks.

An established cutting and fabrication company in Germiston is looking for a Bending Operator to join its production team. The Bending Operator sets up and operates the bending machine(s) to bend cut parts to the job card and drawing, and checks that finished parts meet specification before they move on for further processing or assembly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Machine Operation

• Prepare the bending machine with the correct tooling for each job, according to the job card and drawing
• Bend parts according to the job card, drawing and specification
• Check bent parts against the drawing and adjust settings where required to maintain accuracy
• Query any discrepancy between the job card, drawing and material with the Workshop Manager before proceeding

Machine Care and Maintenance

• Carry out start-up, shut-down and daily checks on oils, gauges, tooling and rails
• Change and maintain tooling as required, and keep tooling stored and correctly identified
• Clean and degrease the machine and tooling weekly, according to the maintenance procedure
• Report any faults found during inspections to the Workshop Manager immediately

Quality, Stock and Records

• Inspect bent parts for accuracy, angle and finish, and report parts that do not meet specification
• Record jobs completed, quantities bent and material used, and sign off completed job cards
• Sort, stack, label and prepare bent parts for the next process or dispatch

Health, Safety and Housekeeping

• Operate only machines you are trained, assessed as competent and authorised to use
• Keep clear of moving tooling and isolate the machine before changing tooling or clearing blockages
• Work according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and wear prescribed PPE
• Report every injury, incident, near miss and unsafe condition immediately
• Keep the work area clean and attend all safety training and toolbox talks

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• South African nationals only
• Minimum 2 years' experience operating a bending machine (e.g. press brake) in a fabrication environment
• Able to set up and change bending tooling
• Able to read and work from engineering drawings, job cards and specifications
• Able to measure and check parts for accuracy and angle
• Sound knowledge of machine safety and safe working practices
• Physically able to handle materials, lift and stand for full shifts

ADVANTAGEOUS

• CNC bending machine experience
• Experience in a sheet metal cutting or fabrication environment
