Job summary

BDO Data Office seeks a Data Analyst to build and support an expanding catalogue of data products on the EDAP platform. You will translate data into insights, collaborate with business and technical experts, and drive value from data assets to support growth analytics strategy.

You will work with Data Analytics Lead to deliver automated analytics, dashboards and reports, ensuring data quality, security, and end-user accessibility across the firm.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in data analysis, data science or BI.
• Strong SQL; Python preferred.
• Experience in data analytics and visualization beyond basic reporting.
• Familiarity with large datasets and relational databases.
• Ability to translate data into actionable insights for stakeholders.
• Experience building data products and moving from Excel-based analyses to automated solutions.
• Knowledge of star schema dimensional modelling.
• Proficiency with Power BI and Power Automate or similar tools.

Job description

The Data Office is responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise-wide data strategy for BDO. Within the Data Office, the Data and Analytics team builds value-focussed data products strategically on the Enterprise Data and Analytics Platform (EDAP), internally for the firm. The Data Analyst sits within this growing team to build, develop, and support the growing catalogue of data products offered by the Data Office and will play a vital part in the execution of the data strategy.

Reporting to the Data Analytics Lead, the Data Analyst will be a key role in the translation of data into meaningful and actionable insights. It is also their responsibility to provide value from the wealth of data available by understanding, not only the business, but also the technical aspects of the data. They will be curious and grow their knowledge of the business and systems to get to the bottom of what stakeholders are really asking for, providing the best product to suit their needs.

The Data Analyst will support continuous improvement with developing value-adding products as well as by highlighting any data risks found through thorough testing and analysis. The Data Analyst will analyse and interpret data from multiple sources, creating models, reports, dashboards, and recommendations that help BDO to make decisions on its growth analytics strategy and beyond.

Principal Accountabilities

• Strives for excellence in data analytics by designing and building data analytics products.
• Delivers products with the right tool, considering security, sensitivity, and a strategic versus tactical approach.
• Works closely with the Data Engineering counterparts to develop the building blocks to analytics by understanding and contributing to the ETL processes with knowledge of project required analytical outputs.
• Possesses foresight in builds of curated datasets to allow for further use cases than the original ask to support Data Engineering with information on what would be required to enhance curated datasets.
• Identifies trends, patterns, and opportunities through statistical analysis and data exploration.
• Provides expert guidance and recommendations to the business on analytics, inclusive of advanced analysis, modelling and performance measurement.
• Understands BDO’s analytical issues across streams and utilises this knowledge to maximise value from BDO’s internal data as well in conjunction with external data sources.
• Collaborates with both business and technical subject matter experts to provide products which focus on a holistic approach.
• Reports to the Data Analytics Lead with clear communication and leads projects with autonomy.

Technical Knowledge, Professional, Qualifications and Experience

• At least 1 years’ experience of working in the fields of data analysis, data science, or business intelligence.
• Proficiency in SQL and, preferably, Python.
• Extensive experience in data analytics and data visualisation, preferably beyond descriptive and diagnostic analytics.
• Understanding of statistical concepts and analytical techniques.
• Experience working with large datasets and relational databases.
• A track record in making data solutions accessible for end-users.
• Experience of working with stakeholders to deliver a data-driven approach to decision making.
• Experience in building data products which transition away from manual and heavily Excel based analysis towards automated or semi-automated solutions.
• Knowledge of star schema modelling including dimensional data modelling, the identification of dimensions, facts, measures and hierarchies.
• Experience developing analytics using Microsoft Power BI, Power Automate and/or other data visualisation tools.
