Job summary

Relay EMS in South Africa is seeking a skilled Basic Life Support (BLS) practitioner to deliver urgent medical care, assess patients, and support transport operations. The candidate must be HPCSA-registered BLS, hold a Code 10 driver's license with PrDP, have at least one year of BLS experience, and matric.

Strong teamwork and communication are essential to operate under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• HPCSA Basic Life Support (BLS) registration is required.
• Code 10 driver’s license and PrDP are non-negotiable.
• Minimum of 1 year experience as BLS.
• Matric certificate or equivalent qualification.
• Excellent telephonic/radio communication skills.
• Fluent in English; additional languages advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Responding timeously to all call outs.
• Assessing health status of persons involved in accidents, natural disasters and other emergencies.
• Monitor changes in health status during transport to and from facilities.
• Performing medical procedures at BLS level.
• Record patient conditions and treatments on the PRF and submit on time.
• Drive emergency care vehicles and ensure safe operation per policies.
• Inspire, motivate, develop and lead other staff to ensure quality care.

Key Performance Areas:

• Responding timeously to all call outs.
• Assessing health status of persons involved in accidents, natural disasters and other emergency situations.
• Monitoring changes in the health status of patients during transport to and from medical, rehabilitation and other health care facilities.
• Performing medical procedures/treatment at BLS level of training,
• Efficient and effective management of emergency medical and trauma calls as per company standards, policies and procedures.
• Recording information on patient's conditions and treatment on Patient Report Form (PRF).
• PRF completed correctly and accurately and submitted to call centre in due time.
• Driving emergency care vehicles.
• Safe operating of company vehicles and equipment as per company policies and procedures.
• Be able to inspire, motivate, develop and lead other staff to ensure efficient clinical and professional emergency medical care.

Job Requirements

• Current Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Must have a valid Code 10 driver’s license, and PrDP, non-negotiable.
• Minimum of 1 years' experience as BLS
• Must have matric certificate or equivalent qualification
• Ability to work effectively in a team
• Ability to perform under high pressure situations
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• Excellent telephonic/radio communication skills.
• Excellent communication skills with colleagues, hospital staff and Doctors.
• Flexibility to adapt and cope with changes at short notice
• Strong administration skills with attention to detail
• Must be PC literate - basic word, excel and e-mail
• Fluent in English. Any additional languages will be advantageous
