Job summary

The President Hotel in Bantry Bay, Cape Town, is seeking a guest-focused Bartender to prepare and serve beverages, assist guests with menu choices, and maintain a high standard of presentation and service at the bar.

You will work in a busy luxury environment, following recipes, managing stock, and upselling drinks to meet revenue targets while upholding sanitation and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 and 1 year bartending experience in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong knowledge of cocktails, beers, wines, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages.
• Ability to follow drink recipes accurately and maintain consistent quality and presentation.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and guest service skills.
• Ability to multitask and remain professional under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Take accurate drink orders at the bar and in designated seating areas.
• Prepare and serve beverages using the correct ingredients, equipment and glassware.
• Recommend drinks based on guest preferences and assist with menu choices, dietary requirements and special requests.
• Check identification where required when serving alcohol.
• Build guest relationships, remember preferences and anticipate needs.
• Handle guest concerns calmly and professionally.
• Upsell and cross-sell beverages and menu items to meet or exceed weekly and monthly revenue targets.
• Support promotions and revenue initiatives with the management team.
• Keep the bar clean, organised and stocked, including cleaning equipment and following sanitation procedures.
• Participate in daily stock takes, report wastage and assist with supply orders.
• Report equipment faults and maintenance requirements to the Bar Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12.
• Minimum 1 year's bartending experience in a fast-paced environment is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of cocktails, beers, wines, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages.
• Ability to follow drink recipes accurately and maintain consistent quality and presentation.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and guest service skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritise and remain professional under pressure.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail and willingness to learn new recipes and techniques.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and move efficiently throughout the bar.
• Familiarity with restaurant management software and POS systems.
• Basic maths skills and cash-handling experience are advantageous.
• Minimum 21 years of age.
