Job summary

Travelstart is seeking an experienced Python Developer to join our Technology team in Cape Town. This backend-focused role emphasizes APIs, integrations and automation across scalable systems.

We welcome mid or senior-level developers who can operate independently, contribute to architecture, and mentor others. Expect to work in an Agile environment with cross-functional collaboration across Engineering, Product, Data and Operations.

Qualifications

• Strong Python software development experience.
• Experience building backend apps, APIs and integrations.
• Familiarity with Python frameworks (FastAPI, Django, Flask).
• Solid understanding of REST APIs and service-based architectures.
• Good SQL and relational database experience.
• Experience with Git and modern source-control practices.
• Experience with automated testing and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience in Docker and cloud deployments.
• Understanding of performance, scalability and security.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend apps and services using Python.
• Build and support APIs and integrations across internal and third-party systems.
• Develop scalable, secure software for high-volume environments.
• Translate requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Refactor and automate to reduce technical debt.
• Participate in technical design and reviews.
• Write automated tests and conduct peer code reviews.
• Follow CI/CD and deployment processes.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Improve performance, reliability, monitoring and observability.
• Operate in an Agile delivery environment and drive process improvements.
• Collaborate with third-party providers and platforms.
• Share knowledge across the engineering team.
• Mentor less-experienced developers and contribute to architecture decisions.
