Job summary

Sanlam Life and Savings seeks an Intermediate Software Engineer – Java, Cloud & DevOps in Cape Town. You will design, develop, test, deploy, and support backend applications and APIs in an enterprise environment, collaborating with product owners, analysts, architects, testers and peers to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

The role emphasizes Java and Spring development with cloud exposure, DevOps delivery, automated testing, and disciplined engineering standards.

Qualifications

Requires a relevant degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or related field.
Experience with backend Java development and Spring Boot in enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and REST/JPA, including SOAP integrations where applicable.
Develop, test, deploy, and support backend applications and APIs in a structured enterprise setting.
Contribute to design discussions and ensure security and architectural standards are followed.
Write clean, maintainable code and participate in CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Create automated tests with JUnit 5, Mockito, REST Assured, and WireMock.
Contribute to technical documentation and delivery progress.
