Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Aviation Safety Officer for our Randburg, Gauteng client in the aviation services sector. The role blends on-site safety assessments with remote analysis, reporting, and policy development within a hybrid model.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree in aviation-related fields and 6+ years of safety leadership, with deep SMS knowledge, regulatory understanding, and strong analytical capabilities to drive a proactive safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Safety Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in aviation safety management or a related role.
• Proven knowledge of SMS and risk management principles.
• Experience with incident investigation techniques and reporting.
• Thorough understanding of aviation regulations (ICAO Annex 19, SA-CAR).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead and influence change across departments.
• Proficiency in safety management software and standard office apps.
• Relevant safety certifications (e.g., SMS for Aviation Professionals) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the organization’s Safety Management System (SMS).
• Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and hazard analyses.
• Investigate aviation incidents and accidents, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for all staff levels.
• Monitor compliance with aviation safety regulations and company policies.
• Promote a positive safety culture and encourage reporting of safety concerns.
• Prepare safety reports and statistics for management review.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities on safety matters.
• Stay current with changes in aviation safety legislation and best practices.
• Manage the safety documentation and record-keeping system.
