About the Role

Our client, a leading aviation infrastructure development firm, is seeking an accomplished Aviation Project Manager to oversee key projects in Pietermaritzburg. This role is responsible for the planning, execution, and successful completion of complex aviation-related projects, such as airport upgrades, runway constructions, or air traffic control system implementations. You will manage project scope, budgets, timelines, and resources, ensuring stakeholder satisfaction and adherence to the highest industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, exceptional organizational skills, and a proven ability to navigate the intricacies of the aviation sector. This hybrid role requires a combination of on-site project oversight and remote planning/coordination, based in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the full project lifecycle, from initiation and planning to execution, monitoring, control, and closure.
• Define project scope, goals, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
• Develop detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
• Manage project teams, ensuring effective communication, coordination, and performance.
• Oversee procurement processes and manage contracts with vendors and suppliers.
• Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and issues, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant aviation regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
• Report project status, key milestones, and issues to stakeholders regularly.
• Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure financial objectives are met.
• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between all project stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Aerospace, Electrical), Construction Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of project management experience, with at least 5 years focused on aviation or airport infrastructure projects.
• Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale, complex projects from inception to completion.
• Strong understanding of project management methodologies (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
• Excellent knowledge of aviation operations, regulations, and industry best practices.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
• Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
• Experience in risk management and financial oversight of projects.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
