About the Role

Our client, a pioneering force in the automotive sector based in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, is looking for an innovative and highly analytical Automotive Performance Engineer . This role is instrumental in driving the development and optimisation of vehicle performance across various platforms. You will be deeply involved in the design, testing, and validation of engine, powertrain, and chassis systems to achieve superior performance metrics. This hybrid position requires a candidate who can contribute effectively both on-site at our client's advanced R&D facilities in Pietermaritzburg and remotely, leveraging their expertise to push the boundaries of automotive engineering. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement performance enhancement strategies for vehicle powertrains and chassis systems.
• Conduct rigorous performance testing and data analysis using simulation tools and physical prototypes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, and electronics engineers to integrate performance improvements.
• Develop and maintain test plans, validation procedures, and performance specifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex performance-related issues throughout the vehicle development lifecycle.
• Utilise advanced data acquisition systems to monitor and analyse vehicle dynamics and engine performance.
• Stay abreast of emerging automotive technologies and competitor performance benchmarks.
• Document technical findings, recommendations, and project progress clearly and concisely.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and methodologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive performance engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Proven experience with powertrain and chassis dynamics, engine tuning, and vehicle testing.
• Proficiency in simulation software (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, GT-SUITE, Adams).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and control systems as applied to automotive applications.
• Experience with data acquisition systems and post-processing tools.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts.
• Ability to work effectively in both an on-site and remote hybrid setting.
