Job summary

Sappi is seeking an Assistant: Rewinder to support the Rewinderman in the Finishing House. The role involves positioning reels, operating hoists, feeding paper onto the winding shaft and assisting with reel handling and cutting tasks.

The ideal candidate will have Grade 12 / NQF Level 4, strong safety awareness, and a willingness to work in a manufacturing setting within a global paper producer.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification.
• Basic safety awareness and PPE compliance.
• Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect hand tools to ensure safe condition.
• Position the reel on the dolly and remove core plugs and strapping.
• Operate the overhead hoist to align unwind shaft with reel core.
• Push reel towards shaft until end enters the core.
• Advance reel so about 50% of shaft is in the core.
• Assist rewinder to hoist reel and load into back stand.
• Assist rewinder in cutting side-run reels to the PM2 conveyor.
• Feed paper sheet from back stand through rewinder onto winding shaft.

We’re on the lockout for a Assistant : Rewinder the incumbent will assists the Rewinderman in the running of the Finishing House, Rewinder to convert paper reels from work in progress into finished goods.

As a Assistant : Rewinder you will be responsible to:

• Inspect all hand tools and ensure all are in a safe working condition.
• Positions the on-put reel on the dolly in the epco track behind the rewinder back stand and removes the core plugs and strapping from the reel.
• Operate the overhead hoist to position the unwind shaft level with the core of the reel.
• Pushes the reel towards the shaft until the end of the shaft enters the core of the reel.
• Unhooks the hoist chain nearest the reel and pushes the reel forward until approx 50% of the shaft is into the core of the reel.
• Removes the second hoist chain and pushes the shaft until the core is against the cone of the shaft.
• Assist the Rewinder to hoist the reel and load it into the back stand.
• Assist the Rewinder in cutting up side-run reels and remove them to the PM2 broke conveyor.
• Assist the Rewinder in feeding the paper sheet from the back stand, through the rewinder and onto the winding shaft. What are we looking for?
