Job summary

The Department of Health in Gauteng seeks an Assistant Manager Nursing Specialty (Child Nursing) to provide strategic leadership in paediatric nursing, oversee clinical governance, and supervise a team in a busy, high-pressured environment.

Candidates must have a post basic diploma in Child Nursing Science (1 year) and a management qualification, with at least 10 years’ nursing experience and 3 years at management level; salary package is R785 568.00 per annum plus benefits.

• Minimum 10 years’ nursing experience after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing; at least 3 years in management level.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and ensure clinical governance programmes.
• Monitor paediatric morbidity, mortality and adverse events; ensure appropriate bed utilization.
• Develop SOPs, clinical guidelines, policies and protocols for child nursing; participate in HR planning.
• Lead and supervise staff; manage resources and perform night duties when required.
• Collect, analyse and report relevant data to inform decisions.

Requirements :

• Basic qualification accredited with SANC in terms of Government Notice 425 or equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse plus a post basic diploma in Child Nursing Science with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with SANC. A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing. At least 6 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification in the relevant specialty. At least 3 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience at management level, preferably operational manager level. Must have a management qualification. The candidate must be able to work in a busy, high-pressured environment and lead a team to resolve conflict, maintain quality patient care and work within the legal and ethical framework that governs the profession. Manage staff, adhere to cost containment measures, and provide supervision to subordinates and multidisciplinary staff. Ability to work independently. Manage human resources, leave management and performance management. Good communication and report writing skills. Knowledge of nursing care processes and procedures, nursing statutes, and other relevant legal frameworks such as: Nursing Act, Health Act, OHS Act, Patient Rights Charter, Batho-Pele principles, Public Service regulations, Labour Relations Act, Disciplinary Code and Procedure, Grievance Procedure, etc. Skills: Leadership, organizational, decision making and problem-solving abilities within the limit of the public sector and institutional policy framework. Must be computer literate (Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint, outlook).

Duties :

• Provide strategic leadership. Ensure implementation of clinical governance programmes. Monitor paediatric morbidity, mortality and adverse events. Ensure appropriate utilization of paediatric beds. Participate in the development of standard operating procedures, clinical guidelines, policies and protocols relating to child nursing. Participate in human resource planning. Monitor patients and family experience of care. Promote continuous professional development. Perform and act in the capacity of a Deputy Manager when delegated/required to do so. Perform delegated task e.g. Night duty when required. Collect relevant data, analyze, interpret and disseminate data
