Job summary

CFAO South Africa, based in Durban, is seeking an Assistant Manager for the Vehicle Logistics Centre. You will coordinate import/export by road and sea, manage staff, and ensure compliance with regulations and deadlines.

Qualifications include a logistics/SC degree and 7+ years in logistics, with SAP VMS and cross-border experience. You will report to the Vehicle Logistics Centre manager and drive performance and kaizen initiatives.

Qualifications

• Degree or higher in logistics management or supply chain.
• 7+ years’ logistics, supply chain and operations experience.
• 5+ years’ experience in road and sea import/export in the automotive industry with knowledge of customs and SARS procedures.
• SAP VMS experience.
• Import and export experience, including SARS and customs knowledge.
• Cross border experience (land + sea shipment import and export).
• Understanding of upstream and downstream business processes from customer and supplier perspective.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the import and export functions of the department, ensuring smooth operations and deadlines.
• Oversee staff and resources allocation to manage import/export processes.
• Monitor and manage KPIs related to import/export activities on a daily/monthly basis.
• Review and ensure accuracy of import/export documentation (bills of lading, packing lists, customs declarations).
• Collaborate with clearing agents, freight forwarders, and service providers for customs clearance and transport.
• Stay updated on changes to import/export regulations and policies and inform the team.
• Monitor internal controls to mitigate risks in import/export activities.
• Compile daily/weekly/monthly/ad hoc reports on import/export operations.
• Coordinate daily/weekly reporting and ensure data accuracy.
