Job summary

IIE Rosebank International invites applications for a Library Information Centre Assistant to develop and manage collections and deliver information services to users. The role supports research for students and online learners, promoting intellectual integrity and ethical scholarship.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year working experience in a relevant field, preferably an academic information centre.
  • Experience in information literacy and information services is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in running the circulation desk (issuing, renewing, returning loans).
  • Handle newspapers and journals daily (scanning and clipping).
  • Manage journals and daily shelving, shelf reading.
  • Check equipment functionality (computers, printer, copier).
  • Assist with updating notice boards and Information Centre displays.
  • Help students with OPAC searches and information literacy workshops.
  • Provide clerical support to Information Specialist (photocopying, workshop help, guides, worksheets).
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Purpose:

To develop and manage collections of recorded material and the delivery of information services to users. Library collections can include books, journals, newspapers, pamphlets, manuscripts, maps, films, sound recordings, microfilms, CD-ROMs, e-books, e-journals, and databases. The position also supports research and research practice for both students and Online Students. Promote intellectual integrity and ethical scholarship

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist in running of circulation desk (issuing, renewal & returning book loans)
  • Daily handling of newspapers (including scanning and clippings)
  • Daily handling of journals
  • Daily shelving and shelf reading
  • Check that all equipment (computers, printer, copier) is functional
  • Assist in updating of notice boards
  • Assist in preparing and mounting Information Centre displays
  • Assist students with using computers
  • Conducts Information literacy workshops for students
  • Help students with OPAC searches
  • Always ensure that Information Centre is neat and professional
  • Provides clerical support to the Information Specialist e.g., photocopying handouts, helping during workshops, checking subject guides and database worksheets
  • In addition to these typical duties, may perform other duties as assigned and required.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science
Experience
  • Minimum of 1-year working experience in a relevant field, preferably academic Information Centre
