Qualifications

  • Sound knowledge of South African tax legislation including VAT, payroll and provisional tax requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IFRS and applicable financial reporting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit SARS returns (VAT, provisional tax, payroll tax).
  • Submit annual company returns to CIPC and Stats SA questionnaires.
  • Coordinate BBBEE documentation and liaise with verification agents.
  • Maintain regulatory documentation (CIPC, tax clearance, BBBEE certificates).
  • Prepare/audit financial statements in line with standards.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Financial Manager – Compliance to join the finance team of this hospitality group based in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the Group’s legal entities remain compliant with all applicable laws, rules and regulations. This includes managing statutory submissions, tax compliance, CIPC and BBBEE requirements, audit processes, company documentation and various regulatory obligations. This is a hands-on role suited to a highly analytical finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment and is confident working independently while engaging with internal and external stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare and submit South African Revenue Service (SARS) returns, including VAT, provisional tax, payroll tax and semi-annual employee tax reconciliations.
  • Perform monthly reviews to assess the reasonableness and accuracy of VAT submissions.
  • Respond to SARS requests for supporting documentation and ensure cases are resolved and closed.
  • Verify tax compliance status, resolve findings and report relevant matters to senior management.
  • Prepare and submit annual company returns to CIPC.
  • Compile and submit Stats SA questionnaires and surveys.
  • Complete BBBEE documentation and coordinate submissions with verification agents.
  • Maintain the Group’s compliance drive, ensuring key documentation such as bank confirmation letters, tax clearance certificates, CIPC documentation and BBBEE certificates is current and valid.
  • Maintain company profiles on the Central Supplier Database (CSD) and manage the registration of new business units.
  • Prepare; review and submit audit files and supporting documentation for annual audits.
  • Manage audit queries and ensure they are addressed and resolved timeously.
  • Prepare and/or review audited annual financial statements in accordance with applicable financial reporting standards.
  • Calculate unit holder rent and expenses in line with underlying contracts.
  • Review and approve new bank beneficiaries.
  • Maintain the register of relevant licences, including liquor, TV and fleet licences, ensuring applications and renewals are completed accurately and on time.
  • Submit FICA documentation to banking institutions when required.
  • Generate and submit accurate reports within required deadlines.
  • Document project and regular work progress accurately.
  • Manage and execute assigned tasks and projects.
  • Analyse information, assess risk and recommend practical solutions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • South African citizen.
  • Matric / Grade 12.
  • Reside in Cape Town.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting; Finance or a related field .
  • Completed articles.
  • Registration with an accredited accounting body.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role ; preferably within a large or multi-entity organisation.
  • Sound knowledge of South African tax legislation ; including VAT, payroll and provisional tax requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IFRS and applicable financial reporting standards .
  • Experience working within a multi-entity organisation in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong technical finance and compliance expertise, with the ability to support stakeholders across different areas of the business.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify, assess and mitigate risk.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to present information effectively.
  • Good computer literacy and the ability to use financial and computer systems to process data, analyse information and produce reports.
  • A commitment to keeping up to date with relevant legislative, industry and technology developments.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues, management and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
