Job summary

Sibanye Stillwater in Brits, North West, seeks a dedicated Fitter Artisan to perform planned and general maintenance on shafts and equipment, inspect repairs, replace components, and install systems to keep plant operations safe and reliable.

Applicants must have a formal learnership and a fitter artisan trade certificate, with at least three years of industrial experience, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work under pressure in challenging conditions.

Qualifications

• Completed formal Learnership prior to obtaining fitter artisan trade certificate.
• Have a National Senior Certificate or Grade 12 or Adult Senior Certificate with English literacy or N2 in Engineering studies.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned and general maintenance at shafts and equipment.
• Inspect repairs, replace components, install and maintain mechanical systems.
• Ensure adherence to standards, maintenance schedules and safety requirements.
• Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Escalate unresolved issues for further intervention where needed.
• Maintain quality in all installations, constructions and maintenance activities.

Job description

Minimum Qualifications

• Completed formal Learnership program prior to obtaining a fitter artisan trade certificate as recognized by the MQA.
• Have a National Senior Certificate or Grade 12 or Adult Senior Certificate with English literacy or N2 in Engineering studies.

Requirements

• Have a minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Fitter Artisan, Artisan Aide, or Apprentice within an industrial plant environment.
• Be declared medically fit for the position and the environmental conditions of the Smelter Plant, as determined through a risk-based medical examination conducted at the relevant Sibanye-Stillwater Occupational Health Centre.
• Have the necessary knowledge and practical experience in engineering technology.
• Have the necessary knowledge of applicable legislative, safety, health and environmental requirements and standards. This includes, but is not limited to, the Mine Health and Safety Act, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act
• Be able to demonstrate the ability to perform effectively under pressure and respond positively to setbacks while maintaining productivity, quality, and safety standards
• Be able to work effectively in confined spaces and be comfortable in working at heights
• Have good motor skills, hand, eye and foot coordination
• Have the ability to pay attention to detail and possess an analytical approach to problem solving

Advantageous Qualifications

• Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), will be advantageous.
• Experience in working at a Furnace or Converter and SO2 Plant and other auxiliary equipment will be advantageous
• Experience in working with hydraulic systems, or possession of a recognized hydraulic systems training certificate, will be advantageous

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure availability to perform standby duties
• Ensure the timely escalation of unresolved breakdowns and unsuccessful maintenance, installation, or construction activities to the appropriate level for further intervention and support
• Ensure a prompt and effective response to mechanical breakdowns to minimize equipment downtime and maintain safe, reliable plant operations
• Ensure adherence to the installation, construction, and maintenance of machinery according to relevant standards and specifications
• Ensure adherence to set maintenance schedules and expected return rates
• Ensure the safe use and correct application of equipment and machinery during operation
• Ensure the safe, correct and effective application of equipment and machinery utilized during duties
• Ensure all installations, constructions and maintenance activities are inspected and checked for quality purposes

Job Purpose

• To perform planned and general maintenance at the shafts and equipment. Inspect repairs, replaces, installs and maintains all mechanical components.
