Job summary

Remedy Education is currently seeking a creative and dedicated Art Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school in East London. You will support pupils with SEMH needs, helping them access lessons and develop confidence, creativity and engagement in learning.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, assisting teachers and pastoral staff to create a calm, positive learning environment and to nurture pupils' creativity, resilience and independent progress.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH needs.
• Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour.
• Qualification or background in Art or creative subjects.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils during Art lessons and practical activities.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support.
• Help pupils stay engaged and emotionally regulated.
• Use positive, consistent behaviour strategies.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils.
• Prepare and organise Art materials and classroom resources.
• Support pupils with challenging or complex behaviours.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff.
• Encourage creativity, confidence and independence.
