Job summary

Nedbank seeks an Engineering Lead (Architecture & Solution Design) to guide scalable, secure technology across Nedbank Infrastructure, with emphasis on Digital Mobile Applications and API ecosystems.

You will provide architectural leadership to multiple squads, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and long-term technology strategy. The role includes mentoring engineers, governance involvement, and collaboration with product and business stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years in technical design and solution architecture.
• Experience designing distributed enterprise systems.
• Experience with API-led integration patterns.
• Experience with cloud-native and hybrid architectures.
• Experience leading architecture discussions across multiple teams.
• Financial Services or Insurance domain experience preferred.
• Experience presenting to architecture review boards and governance forums.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end technology solutions spanning applications, integrations, data, infrastructure and operational processes.
• Produce and maintain architecture artefacts, including system and security diagrams, data flow diagrams and LSOs.
• Ensure proposed solutions align to enterprise principles, security standards, governance requirements, and target-state architectures.
• Evaluate existing capabilities and identify opportunities for reuse, simplification and standardisation.
• Drive future-state architecture decisions balancing delivery timelines, risk, and constraints.
• Continuously review and reduce technical debt through design decisions.
• Provide technical leadership across squads and mentor developers and junior leads.
• Review and approve high-level and detailed designs; support complex problem solving and production investigations.
