The University of the Free State invites applications for the Assistant Technician: Human Anatomy at Bloemfontein campus. You will support the School of Biomedical Sciences in preparing and maintaining anatomical specimens, assisting in demonstrations and dissections, and ensuring hygiene and stock control.

The role requires a Grade 12 or NQF 4 certificate, at least one year in an anatomy workshop, and proficiency with MS Word and Excel. Closing date 16 October 2026.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or national vocational certificate on NQF Level 4 (attach a copy).
• A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in an anatomy workshop or similar environment, involving the preparation, handling and maintenance of human anatomical specimens.
• Computer literacy (MS Word and MS Excel).

Responsabilités

• Prepare, embalm and maintain human anatomical specimens (human cadavers).
• Prepare anatomical modules: articulation of osteology material and plastination of anatomical specimens.
• Maintain and replace all anatomical specimens in the department.
• Keep electronic inventories of all workshop activities as required by the Human Tissue Act.
• Assist lecturers in preparing for undergraduate and postgraduate anatomy demonstrations and dissections.
• Ensure a high standard of hygiene in all venues before and after undergraduate and postgraduate anatomy demonstrations and dissections.
• Issue and keep records of all learning materials/bones issued to students, lecturers in the department or clinical departments in the faculty.
• Demonstrate to students the proper use and care of human anatomical specimens.
• Keep an electronic inventory of and ensure proper storage and use of all chemical solutions used in the workshop.
• Perform all related duties as assigned by the workshop manager.
