Job summary

Ovations Technologies is seeking an experienced Analytics Engineer in Johannesburg for a 12-month independent contract. The role focuses on designing and maintaining scalable data models and pipelines within a complex enterprise data environment, driving data products, governance and self-service insights.

You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate with data teams to deliver robust data solutions, ensure data quality, and optimise performance across cloud-based platforms.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree required.
• 3–6 years of general experience in analytics engineering.
• Supervision of junior colleagues for 7–12 months.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable data models, schemas, metadata and data pipelines.
• Translate business requirements into data-product backlogs and data contracts.
• Partner with stakeholders to understand data requirements and business outcomes.
• Provide data management guidance aligned to standards and governance.
• Collaborate with data modelers, engineers, architects and governance teams.
• Apply Data Vault, relational and dimensional modelling concepts.
• Design and maintain data architecture for efficient storage, retrieval and analysis.
• Perform data profiling, testing, validation and reconciliation throughout the lifecycle.
• Identify and resolve data quality issues and contribute to standards.
• Build and maintain APIs with data and software engineers.
• Automate, monitor and optimise pipeline performance.
• Implement data lineage within the metadata environment.
• Ensure validation and reconciliation checks in data pipelines.
• Support cloud technology adoption in data environments.
• Ensure compliance with data protection, privacy, regulatory and governance requirements.
• Enable stakeholders to access governed data for self-service insights.
• Develop reliable datasets, metrics and APIs and ensure they are documented and secured.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior Analytics Engineers.
