Barron is seeking an Alterations Sewing Machinist for its Westlake office in Modderfontein, Gauteng. The role involves operating an industrial sewing machine to sew, join, hem and reinforce garments, with a focus on precision and quality.

The ideal candidate has 12-24 months sewing experience, with a basic understanding of machine maintenance and safety, and the ability to read job cards and work efficiently in a team.

Qualifications

• NQF3/Grade 11 or Equivalent.
• 12-24 months experience in Sewing.

Responsibilities

• Sew, join, gather, hem and reinforce materials using an industrial sewing machine.
• Adjust settings of machine according to product style and observation of operation; replace machine parts and perform basic maintenance.
• Apply basic housekeeping principles to keep the workstation tidy.
• Interpret a job card to ensure correct garment alterations and quality control.

Job Purpose:

The purpose of an Alterations Sewing Machinist is to sew, join gather, hem, and reinforce materials using an industrial sewing machine.

Job Objectives:

Stitch Products

• Adjust settings of machine, according to Product style and observation of operation.
• Adjust machine needle and presser foot to sew parts together to complete the product, replaces sewing machine parts and performs basic maintenance, such as oiling machine, selects supplies, such as thread colour and thread.

Housekeeping

• Apply basic housekeeping principles to ensure that the workstation is tidy.

Qualifications and Experience:

• NQF3/Grade 11 or Equivalent
• 12-24 months experience in Sewing
