Job summary

The University of Johannesburg invites applications for a senior academic position in the Institute for AI Systems. The appointee will teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise research students, and lead research projects within the AI discipline.

Responsibilities include advancing teaching with technology-enhanced methods, conducting high-impact research, and contributing to administrative duties while fostering national and international collaborations.

Qualifications

• PhD in Engineering or equivalent is required.
• Master of Engineering or equivalent is required.
• BEng or equivalent is required.
• At least 10 years of industrial and/or academic experience.
• Registered with ECSA or eligible to be registered.
• Evidence of research growth potential and leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Lecturing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in AI.
• Supervising research projects and postgraduate students.
• Employing innovative, technology-assisted teaching and blended learning.
• Conducting and supervising research, including postdoctoral work.
• Producing high-quality research outputs (journals, books, conference articles).
• Engaging in administrative tasks related to teaching, supervision, research and community engagement.
• Participating in national and global collaboration initiatives.
• Advancing AI through industrial and community engagement.
