Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an AI Ethics and Safety Researcher to join a forward-thinking AI & Emerging Technologies team in Kimberley. The role focuses on researching risks, developing mitigation strategies, and shaping safety protocols to ensure responsible deployment of AI systems.

You will work with AI developers, policymakers, and ethicists to advance trustworthy AI, publish findings, and contribute to safety standards while enjoying a stimulating research environment and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Philosophy, Ethics, or related field with AI safety/ethics specialization.
• 3+ years of research experience in AI safety, AI ethics, or related areas.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking and communication skills.
• Ability to translate complex research into actionable recommendations for technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Research and analyze risks and harms in advanced AI systems, including bias, fairness and existential safety concerns.
• Develop theoretical frameworks and practical methodologies for evaluating AI safety and ethics.
• Collaborate with AI engineers to implement safety measures and ethical considerations into models.
• Contribute to organizational policies and guidelines for responsible AI development.
• Publish research findings and engage with the AI safety and ethics community.
• Stay informed on latest research, regulations, and societal discussions.
