Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an AI Ethics and Governance Specialist to join our client’s team in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will establish ethical guidelines and governance frameworks for AI deployment, ensuring fairness, transparency and regulatory alignment.

You will conduct risk assessments, advise teams on bias mitigation, monitor systems, and deliver training. Close collaboration with legal, R&D and business units will be essential to foster responsible AI practices and trustworthy

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in a relevant field such as Philosophy, Law, Computer Science, Data Science, Public Policy, or Ethics.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in AI ethics, responsible AI, AI governance, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, including common biases and fairness metrics.
• Knowledge of relevant ethical frameworks, legal regulations (e.g., GDPR, POPIA), and policy development.
• Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in developing and implementing governance frameworks is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with AI development lifecycles and potential ethical challenges at each stage.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment located in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive AI ethics principles and governance policies.
• Conduct ethical risk assessments and impact analyses for new AI projects and products.
• Advise project teams on ethical considerations, bias detection, and mitigation strategies in AI systems.
• Monitor AI systems for fairness, accountability, and transparency, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
• Stay abreast of evolving AI ethics research, best practices, and global regulatory landscapes.
• Develop and deliver training programs on AI ethics and responsible AI development for employees.
• Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to interpret and apply relevant laws and regulations to AI.
• Facilitate discussions and workshops on AI ethics dilemmas and decision-making processes.
• Contribute to public discourse and industry standards on AI ethics and governance.
