Job summary

Howden South Africa Division is seeking an experienced EHS Officer to ensure SHE compliance on maintenance and GO sites in Middelburg. You will manage safety administration, conduct observations, and investigate incidents to uphold client and internal standards.

Key responsibilities include rolling out safety requirements, auditing subcontractors, risk assessments, and safe work procedures, plus SOX/AX controls adherence in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Safety Management required.
• Grade 12 and SAMTRAC certification.
• SACPMP registration as safety officer is required.
• Minimum 5 years as an EHS Officer in industry.

Responsibilities

• Accountable for HSE on maintenance and GO sites to ensure legal compliance.
• Responsible for safety administration, job observations, and incident investigations.
• Rollout safety requirements to sites and provide feedback on implementation.
• Audit subcontractors before site access and recommend corrective actions.
• Assess risk, write risk assessments and safe work procedures.
• Adhere to Sarbanes-Oxley and AX controls (SOX compliance).

EHS Officer

Howden South Africa Division is looking for an experienced EHS Officer (Middelburg) to ensure that the customer sites where Howden staff perform maintenance and installations, comply with SHE standards (internal, client standards & statutory compliance).

What Will You Do?

• Accountable for HSE on the various Maintenance and GO sites to ensure Howden complies legally with its internal procedures.
• Responsible for the safety administration and doing job observations and recording of safety requests/complaints/ near misses and investigating all incidents.
• Accountable for the rollout of all safety requirements to sites and giving feedback about rollout to ensure we comply with our internal safety requirements.
• Conduct audits on subcontractors before allowing them onto site, as to determine the level of compliance and suggest corrective action and implantation of action to ensure we compile with our and customer requirements.
• Assessing risk on sites and writing of risk assessments and written safe work procedures to enable work to be done.
• SOX Compliance: Adhere to Sarbanes Oxley and AX controls.

Your Experience Should Be.

• National Diploma in Safety Management
• Grade 12, SAMTRAC
• SACPMP Registered as a safety officer.
• 5 years of experience as an EHS Officer
• Incident and accident investigation course
• HIRA course
• Basic SHE audit course
• Extensive SHE exposure in industrial / manufacturing environment
• Must be computer literate.
• Added advantage - Ergonomics training, ISO 90001 Safety and quality certified, ISO 14000 environmental certified
• ISO 45000 certified.

Packhouse Management Requirements

• Further relevant studies will be an advantage
• Minimum 5 years extensive experience in packhouse management
• Experience in fruit packing, including citrus, soft citrus and mango varieties
• Knowledge of packhouse operations, production processes and quality control
• Experience with electronic sizing equipment such as MAF Roda, Greefa or
• Compac will be an advantage
• Computer literate with good MS Office and Outlook skills
• Fluent in Afrikaans and English
• A third language will be an advantage
• Able to work long hours and overtime when required
