Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Agricultural Extension Officer to support farmers in Mossel Bay and the Western Cape. The role bridges research and practice, delivering technical advice, training, and demonstrations to improve productivity and sustainability.

You will work with farmers to identify needs, introduce new technologies, and facilitate access to inputs, finance, and markets, traveling within the service area as required.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or related field.
• Experience in agricultural extension or rural development.
• Strong understanding of Western Cape farming systems and challenges.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance and advisory services to farmers on crop production, livestock management, and sustainable practices.
• Organize and conduct farmer training workshops, field days, and demonstration plots.
• Assess farmers' needs and challenges, and recommend appropriate solutions and technologies.
• Facilitate farmer access to agricultural inputs, financial services, and markets.
• Collect and report agricultural data, trends, and feedback from the farming community.
• Promote the adoption of climate-smart agriculture and conservation techniques.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and communicative Agricultural Extension Officer to serve the farming community in and around Mossel Bay . This vital role involves bridging the gap between agricultural research and practical farm application, providing farmers with up-to-date knowledge, technical advice, and support to enhance their productivity and sustainability. You will work closely with farmers to understand their challenges, introduce new technologies and farming methods, and facilitate access to resources.
