Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a compassionate and experienced Addiction Counselor to join a treatment center in Stellenbosch. You will provide individual and group counseling to clients with substance use disorders and co‑occurring mental health issues.

The ideal candidate is empathetic, non‑judgmental and skilled in motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy, working a hybrid schedule that balances direct client interaction with remote administrative tasks.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field.
  • Professional certification or accreditation as an Addiction Counselor.
  • Proven experience in addiction counseling and treating substance use disorders.
  • Strong understanding of CBT and MI.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' substance use and mental health status.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with recovery goals.
  • Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions using evidence-based approaches.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support during acute challenges.
  • Educate clients and families about addiction, recovery, and relapse prevention.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' substance use and mental health status.

  • Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions using evidence-based approaches.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to clients experiencing acute challenges.

Requirements
  • Relevant degree or diploma in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
