Job Purpose
The Director, Upstream Finance will provide financial leadership and business partnering support for the company's upstream oil and gas operations in Venezuela. The role is responsible for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, performance management, investment evaluation, and financial governance across producing assets, development projects, and joint venture operations. This position will work closely with operational, commercial, and executive leadership teams to drive profitability, optimize costs, improve cash flow, and support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities for upstream operations in Venezuela.
- Monitor and analyse production performance, operating costs (OPEX), capital expenditure (CAPEX), cash flow, and profitability.
- Support the evaluation of exploration, development, and production projects through financial analysis and investment appraisal.
- Develop and review economic models, business cases, and project investment proposals.
- Partner with asset teams to identify cost savings, efficiency improvements, and value creation opportunities.
- Support joint venture and partner management activities, including budget reviews, cash calls, and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, financial controls, local regulations, and governance requirements.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CFO, executive management, and shareholders.
- Work closely with Treasury, Tax, FP&A, Commercial, Supply Chain, and Operations teams.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team supporting Venezuela operations.
- Support negotiations and strategic discussions with partners, regulators, and external stakeholders as required.
About You
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA, or equivalent is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of finance experience, including significant leadership experience within the oil and gas industry.
- Strong experience in upstream oil and gas operations, including E&P asset finance and project economics.
- Experience working with joint ventures, partner-operated assets, or production sharing arrangements.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, investment appraisal, and performance management.
- Experience supporting large-scale capital projects and upstream investment decisions.
- Strong understanding of ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and business intelligence platforms.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Fluency in English is required; Spanish language skills would be a strong advantage for operating in Venezuela.
