UCC already holds a participatin in Offshore Gs project in Venezuela. We are now establishing our onshore operating organisation in Eastern Venezuela.

This is a hands‑on leadership role for an experienced operator who knows how to get things done in Venezuela and who can build a high‑performing team that combines international standards with local knowledge.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead all field operations for the assets: production, maintenance, well interventions, injection and facilities, safely, reliably and within budget.
  • Deliver the annual production commitments, work programmes and budgets, and prepare the business and development plans submitted for regulatory approval.
  • Own the relationship with the national oil company, the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and regional and local authorities: joint committees, technical and operating reviews, approvals, reporting and day‑to‑day coordination.
  • Establish and run the operating management system: HSE and process safety, permit to work, asset and well integrity, emergency response and environmental compliance, aligned with API and IOGP practice.
  • Lead the transition of field operations to UCC: handover of assets and inventories, baseline environmental studies, transfer of personnel and contracts, and start‑up of UCC systems.
  • Drive the redevelopment programme: well reactivation and workovers, artificial lift, pressure maintenance and water and gas injection, with a disciplined focus on cost per barrel.
  • Direct procurement and contractor performance in the field: rigs, well services, construction and maintenance contracts, and materials logistics.
  • Ensure accurate fiscal measurement, production allocation and reporting to partners and authorities.
  • Lead, develop and retain a multidisciplinary team of UCC professionals and seconded personnel; manage industrial relations and the collective agreement framework.
  • Build positive relationships with communities and security bodies in the area of operations.
Requirements
  • Minimum 25 years of experience in upstream oil operations, including at least 10 years in senior field or asset leadership roles (asset manager, field manager, operations manager or equivalent).
  • Degree in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline; postgraduate studies are an advantage.
  • Proven track record of managing producing oil fields end to end: production operations, well interventions, surface facilities, injection projects and field budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage senior relationships with national oil companies, ministries and government stakeholders, and to negotiate technical and operating matters at the highest level.
  • Strong leadership: has built and led large multidisciplinary teams and contractor workforces in demanding environments.
  • Solid knowledge of the Venezuelan hydrocarbons regulatory framework and labour legislation.
  • Strong HSE and process-safety leadership; familiarity with API and IOGP standards.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (spoken and written), able to present to international shareholders and to national authorities.
  • Uncompromising integrity and commitment to compliance and anti‑corruption standards.
Preferred
  • Experience in the oil fields of Monagas State and Eastern Venezuela, particularly deep, high‑pressure light and medium crude reservoirs.
  • Hands‑on experience with pressure maintenance, gas lift, water and gas injection, asphaltene management and field redevelopment.
  • Experience in field transitions or operatorship takeovers, and in joint operations with the national oil company.
