Job summary

The Oregon Zoo is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic veterinary team at the state-of-the-art Veterinary Medical Center. You will contribute to expert medical care for a diverse range of species and support anesthesia monitoring, diagnostics, imaging, and clinical procedures.

Responsibilities include assisting veterinarians, handling anesthesia, performing in-house lab analyses, administering treatments, and maintaining medical records.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a veterinary science-related field.
• Three years of full-time professional animal care veterinary technician experience that is current and includes significant experience monitoring anesthesia.
• Must be legally credentialed to practice as a Veterinary Technician.
• Must maintain an Oregon veterinary technician license or be eligible for Oregon licensure within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in clinical procedures on a variety of zoo animal species.
• Prepare treatment area or surgery room with appropriate instruments and monitoring equipment.
• Assist in restraint techniques.
• Perform as surgical nurse or anesthetist as directed by the veterinarian.
• Administer treatments and collect medical samples; maintain medical records.
• Use imaging equipment to produce diagnostic studies.
• Clean instruments and sterilize equipment.
• Perform in-house lab analyses including hematology, chemistry, parasitology, urinalysis, and cytology.
• Dispense prescribed medications following labeling and regulations.
