Job summary

Colorado Psychiatric seeks a dedicated veterinary technician to support the zoo veterinarian and manage the veterinary hospital. Qualifications

• Graduate of an AVMA Accredited Veterinary Technology Program with an active license or ability to obtain Colorado veterinary technician license within 30 days.
• Minimum of 2 years as a technician in a zoo, wildlife, or exotic animal setting.
• Experience with AZA, USDA, and Colorado standards/regulations is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily medical care of the animal collection, including medications and care for hospitalized patients.
• Provide daily care for quarantined animals with basic husbandry and medical care.
• Assist in capturing and restraining a variety of animal taxa for examinations and treatments.
• Assist veterinarians during examinations, anesthesia, surgeries, and necropsies.
• Provide triage of cases when the veterinarian is off-site and guide care staff accordingly.
• Collaborate on voluntary training of collection animals for procedures.
