Job summary

The Santa Barbara Zoo is seeking a Female Custodian to uphold cleanliness and guest experience under the Director of Facilities & Horticulture. You will keep work areas clean, pick up trash, and report unsafe conditions, contributing to conservation and education in a mission-driven environment.

The position is regular, hourly, non-exempt, full-time with a Wednesday–Sunday schedule (11:00 am–7:30 pm); some flexibility may be possible for events and operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent custodial experience.
• Basic knowledge of janitorial methods, materials, and equipment.
• Ability to follow safety precautions and read safety labels.
• Ability to lift and move objects safely and work independently or with others.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums floors using appropriate cleaning solutions and equipment.
• Cleans and polishes walls, ceilings, windows, fixtures, and related surfaces.
• Disinfects restrooms, restocks supplies, and maintains cleanliness standards.
• Picks up debris around zoo grounds and maintains trash removal routines.
• Reports major repairs or issues to management; follows safety policies.
• Maintains a neat appearance and adheres to uniform/dress code; practices green cleaning whenever possible.
• Attends all-employee meetings when scheduled.
