Job summary

The City of Fort Worth's Development Services Department is hiring a Zoning Plans Examiner to review site plans, landscape plans, elevations and building plans for zoning compliance. The role involves coordinating with builders and the public, interpreting zoning and sign ordinances, and ensuring accurate plan submittals in a collaborative, customer-focused environment.

Ideal candidates will have at least two years of related city inspection or planning experience, strong analytical skills, and

Qualifications

• Two years of city building inspection, plans examination, construction field, architecture, landscape architecture, forestry experience, urban planning and design, or related field.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s from an accredited college with major in Planning/Urban Planning/Design/Public Administration/Urban Geography or related field; AICP/CNU preferred.
• Recent GIS usage for mapping and data analysis; SketchUp or similar 3D design software; Adobe Creative Suite; Spanish language skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review site plans, landscape plans, building elevations, and signs to ensure zoning compliance.
• Explain and apply Zoning and Sign Ordinances within departmental guidelines; communicate with builders and the public.
• Assist with plan submittals, calculations, and interpreting the Zoning Ordinance for contractors, engineers and staff.
• Maintain time management and prioritize tasks; participate in a hybrid in-office/remote schedule.
