Job summary

Ada County seeks a dedicated Code Enforcement professional to inspect zoning compliance, engage with property owners, and support legal proceedings. You'll handle animal/vehicle related tasks, truck inspections, and documentation under Idaho law.

Position involves field work, evenings/weekends, and the potential for high-emotion situations. A high school diploma and strong communication skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in customer service, including serving a diverse population.
  • Experience in reading and understanding laws, codes, or rules.
  • Knowledge of investigative techniques.
  • Knowledge of due process requirements.
  • Knowledge of location of VIN on all types of vehicles.
  • Knowledge of use of all types of office equipment.
  • Skill in verbal and written communications to include conflict resolution in tense situations.
  • Skill in the operation of a personal computer and use of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to learn code enforcement practices.
  • Ability to learn zoning ordinances and determine compliance.
  • Ability to accurately record, document and prepare case files for use in legal action.
  • Ability to learn and retain information concerning the law and adapt to changes.
  • Ability to gather and protect evidence during an investigation.
  • Ability to read blueprints and architectural plans.
  • Ability to research owner and title information using a variety of sources.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle while pulling a trailer.
  • Ability to work effectively in situations that may be highly emotional in nature.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates selected areas to ascertain compliance with zoning regulations and illegal commercial use; educates owners to gain compliance.
  • Participates in legal proceedings by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses/suspects, and documenting cases for submission into legal proceedings.
  • Receives and responds to calls regarding abandoned or impounded vehicles; arranges towing.
  • Processes abandoned vehicle paperwork per Idaho Code and ITD procedures.
  • Maintains inventory and releases vehicles from Ada County impound facility.
  • Conducts VIN inspections and determines vehicle ownership.
  • Supports Patrol Division including traffic control, crime scene management and evidence collection.
  • Transports property and evidence; works special events including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must undergo use of force training and certification on protective devices.
