Job summary

SAFEbuilt, Inc. in Athens, MI is seeking a Zoning Code Enforcement Officer to enforce municipal codes and support planning initiatives. You will investigate violations, review permits, and provide clear guidance to the public.

The role requires strong communication, code interpretation, and independence to handle inspections, data collection, and reports. A valid driver’s license and zoning experience are preferred; ICC certifications are a bonus.

Qualifications

• Administrative experience with MS Office and reading technical documents.
• Zoning experience required.
• ICC certifications or state licenses are a plus.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Enforce zoning ordinances and investigate violations to determine validity.
• Notify issues in writing, by phone, in person or electronically.
• Prepare records and reports on abatements, actions and inspections.
• Review small building permits for compliance with land development regulations.
• Provide information to the public about zoning codes and parcel details.
• Assist in planning procedures and interpret city codes for compliance.
• Attend ZBA hearings and Planning Commission meetings as needed.
